Another senior moment from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

I don't feel (and hopefully don't act) like a senior. However, how the heck do we expect seniors to act these days? When we were kids - being past 50 meant you were practically an antique and had one foot in the grave. Today - it's like being in your 30s. We can still do so much, and we're still YOUNG!

I feel strange asking for senior discounts at stores. I am more experienced, but I don't think I'm too like a senior. But I had another chuckle yesterday. I was at the bulk food store ...

Trifecta!!! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Oh my --- I had a busy day, but I don't have much to show! But I tried, and what doesn't get completely finished, at least, is a sample. The finishing will come later! I trust the people looking at the samples aren't going for finesse -- we're going for the inspiration and the ideas! Plus, I have some finished samples.

But the day started with the two Zoom classes, which went great! I am passionate about teaching, and well, I'm just darn good at it! No one toots their own horn often enough, but I'll ...

A thief amongst us from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

I love when I have a deadline but it's not knocking on my door. I was able to get a lot done yesterday and worked towards the two projects with imminent deadlines, but I was relaxed, and it was a great day!

Almost all the embellishments for the Cherrywood Challenge are done. I still have some work on the two final pieces, and both will be a bit fiddly, but I'm putting that on the back burner because I have something else that needs to be done first. I also made significant progress on that, and the first ...

Get a hair cut! from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

From time to time (OK - every day), I check the stats on this blog. I'm not sure that I even understand how to read them, but I LOVE how the numbers change depending on the topic. The ketchup story? Lots of readers - so can you tell me who is searching the internet for ketchup? Appears that lots of people are.

I'm happy (OK - thrilled) to report that today is Friday! What does that mean? Well, it's Step One of reopening in our province, and that means non-essential stores are open (if they choose to be), and so ...

7 tips for successful quilting in the embroidery hoop from Quilt Social

Yesterday, I chatted about ruler work. For those of you who love free-motion quilting, the rulers provide a wee bit of control when a straight line is needed. Or if you’re trying to break into free-motion, the templates provide physical support.

Today, it’s all about quilting with your embroidery machine! I’m using the Husqvarna Viking Designer EPIC 2 to walk you through some great tips on quilting in the hoop.

Let’s check this out.

5 tips to ruler work success: quilting on a domestic sewing machine from Quilt Social

I’m so excited about the designs you can create using the decorative stitches in embroidery mode of the Husqvarna Viking Designer EPIC 2, that I showed in yesterday’s post. I had to put my experimenting on hold as I explored another aspect of quilting – ruler work.

I have some great tips to share with you as I show you some samples that I stitched out.

Let’s get started.

Quilting using decorative stitches in embroidery mode – Designer EPIC 2 from Quilt Social

What do you think of the Integrated Dual Feed (IDF) and the Adjustable Laser Sewing Guidance I talked about yesterday? Those are just two of the new features on the Husqvarna Viking Designer EPIC 2 that will make your life as a quilter so much easier.

I hear it all the time from sewists and quilters. “I don’t use the decorative stitches on my sewing machine.” Why is that? Partly, I think because people are afraid to venture into the unknown.

Today, I’m exploring the use of decorative stitches as it pertains to quilting or for decorating your ...

The highs and the lows from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Do you remember in some magazines way back when they would have set up two rooms? They were basically decorated the same, but one was filled with items that were high priced and the other was normal priced stuff? Could you always guess which was which? There were many times when I preferred the low-end room over the high-end room.

Well, yesterday was a bit like that. I was back at the training and I learned enough tips to make it worth my time to be there. It's one thing to be self-taught. Quite another to have an expert ...

Can you keep a secret? from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

We've all been asked to keep secrets. Sometimes, I think people tell you that something that is supposed to be a secret because they know you won't be able to keep quiet and that's how things slip out. I think for the most part if someone has asked me to keep something a secret, I keep my lips sealed. It's not my business to pass along someone else's news.

I do think I'm pretty good at keeping secrets. Matter of fact, I bought something last summer and didn't tell a soul. It arrived ...

Parting is such sweet sorrow from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

That's a silly saying when you think about it. How can any part of parting be sweet??  I had a good cry when I dropped M off at the airport at a ridiculous hour this morning so she could catch a 6:15 AM flight. I miss her already. I especially miss Little Bear. He did NOT want to sleep with M last night and instead was quite happy to sleep with me. He's so darn cute! But he's a naughty boy in the house.

The weekend brought back memories of driving your kid to and from ...

The adventures of creating embroidered, appliqued, precut shapes from Quilt Social

It’s the end of the week. ACK! I’ve got so much more to explore in the PREMIER+ ECQ software. If you’ve been following along this week, you’ve seen some of the amazing things that you can design and create.  Yesterday, showed some of the ways the files can be exported.

The PREMIER+ ECQ software packs a huge punch, not just for embroidery files, but different formats as well including computerized quilting machines and digital cutters. I’m using the Husqvarna Viking Designer EPIC 2 to stitch out my files, but ECQ will save the embroidery ...

File export possibilities in PREMIER+ ECQ from Quilt Social

What do you think so far?

The PREMIER+ ECQ software is pretty amazing. I can’t believe how easy it is to use the software and how easy it is to create a design or to modify existing designs.

Yesterday I went over the PREMIER+ ECQ Drawing Tools. Today, I’m exporting a design into the various file formats.

The ladybug

The ladybug is a design from the Design Gallery included in the PREMIER+ ECQ software. I’ve enlarged the ladybug to better fit the canvas size (200mm x 200mm) I’m using. I’ve had to make a few ...

PREMIER+ ECQ Drawing Tools from Quilt Social

Yesterday I showed how easy it is to get your artwork onto the PREMIER+ ECQ software canvas.

Are you excited about the possibilities of creating your own embroidery designs? Or your own cutting files for the digital cutter? Or quilting designs for the long arm robot?

Premier + ECQ design software

I’m super excited about how easy the PREMIER+ ECQ software is to use. I’m not afraid of the blank canvas and I’m excited to see what I can create today. The one thing I’ve learned is the more I play with the software, the easier it ...

Creating artwork with PREMIER + ECQ software – draw, lettering, design from Quilt Social

Isn’t the new PREMIER+ ECQ software I introduced yesterday exciting?

I heard you say you can’t draw so the PREMIER+ ECQ software isn’t for you. Wait! There are some very cool ways you can create designs in PREMIER+ ECQ and none of them involve drawing.

While I’m very creative, my drawing skills are a wee bit on the weak side. I’ve learned practice makes perfect, especially doodling which has helped my free motion quilting. While I continue to practice my doodling and drawing on the side, I’m happy to use the tools within the ...

PREMIER+ ECQ software to spark your creativity – embroider, cut, quilt! from Quilt Social

Welcome back!

This week, I’m sharing something a little different with you. There’s no sewing machine or serger. No – I’m taking a look at a new software package. I’m very excited about it and can’t wait to share it with you.

The software is from the creators of the PREMIER+ Embroidery System. It’s a stand-alone software that does different things than the three levels of the PREMIER+ Embroidery System. While you can create embroidery files in ECQ, it also does more.

It’s called PREMIER+ ECQ. The ECQ stands for Embroidery, Cut, Quilt. Some ...

UFO day from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

Yesterday was a UFO day! The morning started off a wee bit slow - don't ask me why, but it did.

Then I was able to gather steam and I made up for the lost time.

Here's what I accomplished.

I started the day off by making the backing for this small wall hanging. Even though the wall hanging is small, I had to piece the backing. I had loads of fabric choices but wanted to find something that somewhat coordinated with the top. I think I did a great job matching the backing to the top. There's ...

An EPIC experience from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

One good thing about the convention is that the three days of classes start with the most intense day and it slows down each successive day. Thank god - I'm not sure how long I can keep the pace up!

The day started when we took the shuttle to the convention hotel which is an easy process of hopping on a big bus and letting the bus driver do all the hard work. After breakfast and a quick meeting, we zipped off to our respective rooms where we were assigned for the day.

I was in the Husqvarna Viking DESIGNER ...

Let the convention begin from Crazy Quilter on a Bike!

My last walk in the desert - at least for this trip. I'm going to miss that the next couple of days, but then there isn't going to be as much time either as the classes are starting today and we need to have breakfast, get to our classrooms and get organized before the dealers arrive.

The days are going so fast, that I can barely remember what we did yesterday. We did spend the morning during some rehearsals. I'll tell you why in a minute. After lunch, we had some "free" time whereupon I was in my ...
